Getting Started in Golden City
Your first-session plan for Golden Builder Tycoon — codes, mansion buttons, shops, and managers.
Golden City is the wiki name for Roblox’s Golden Builder Tycoon, a free-to-play experience where you raise a city mansion, buy businesses across four tiers, hire managers, and eventually expand to a private island while chasing Mayor and Governor power. This getting-started guide is the on-ramp: what to do in the first hour, what to ignore, and which wiki pages to open next.
Join the correct experience
Always launch from the official game link on the wiki links hub. Fan copies and old place IDs will break codes, group bonuses, and badges. After joining:
- Claim a free plot / tycoon pad if the server still has open slots (server size is small — hop if full).
- Walk the starter buttons until you understand the cash drop loop.
- Open the Codes UI and follow How to redeem codes.
First cash stack (do this immediately)
- Join the official group for the free cash bonus.
- Redeem
GOLDSTART(+5,000 Cash) andBUILDITUP(+10,000 Cash) from the Codes Hub. - Spend into income, not cosmetics.
That early spike should buy several city mansion buttons plus at least one Tier 1 business. If you blow it on a car skin or a late-tier shop you cannot sustain, you will feel broke until jobs catch up.
City mansion loop
The city mansion is your primary tutorial. Buttons unlock rooms, droppers, and quality-of-life pads. Best practices:
- Collect often while buttons are cheap; later, managers reduce the pain (see manager priority).
- Buy the next income button before vanity furniture when funds are tight.
- Watch your leaderstats after each major purchase to confirm the drop actually rose.
- Leave a cash buffer so one bad bribe or impulse buy does not freeze progress.
The embedded video on this page shows a full city-side completion pace. Use it as a visual checklist, not a speedrun you must match on day one.
First businesses
Golden City spreads 130–150+ businesses across the map in four tiers, plus exclusive / secret unlocks. Early on:
- Buy the cheapest shops near your path so collection routes stay short.
- Prefer businesses that pay while you are busy on mansion buttons.
- Your avatar can appear above owned shops — useful flex, but still secondary to income rate.
- Read the full systems write-up in the businesses guide and the ranked list at business income tiers.
A common mistake is saving exclusively for a Tier 3 landmark while ignoring three Tier 1 stands that would have paid for it faster.
Managers 101
Managers turn a babysat plot into a semi-passive empire. Unlock and upgrade order matters more than collecting every manager the second they appear. Broad early rules:
- Hire the manager that collects or multiplies the cash you already generate.
- Level that manager before hiring a specialist you cannot feed.
- Revisit the managers tier list whenever a patch changes costs.
Managers pair extremely well with businesses: shops tick, managers reduce missed collections, and you free time for fishing and jobs.
Jobs, fishing, and daily missions
When mansion buttons get expensive, switch to active money:
- Jobs (lemonade, newspaper, kiosk-style work) pay steady cash for short routes.
- Fishing adds rarity chase energy with many species and luck events.
- Daily missions and safe/daily reward checks (including event items like oil rigs during live ops) should be part of every login.
Details and route ideas live in Fishing and jobs. During seasonal ops, also read Harvest Event.
Soft goals for session one
By the end of a focused first session you want:
- Both starter codes redeemed and group bonus claimed
- Visible progress through the city mansion button tree
- At least a handful of Tier 1–2 businesses owned
- One manager hired or queued
- A mental plan for island unlock requirements (see island mansion)
You do not need Mayor status, Governor campaigns, vault heist clears, or sixty skins on day one. Those systems shine after your economy stops collapsing between purchases — start with Mayor and Governor later.
Badges and long-term targets
Completionists chase the Golden Builder badge for finishing the city tycoon and the much rarer Diamond Builder path on the island. Track those under Players. Treat badges as milestones, not reasons to skip income upgrades.
What to ignore early
- Executor “auto farm” pitches — read the Scripts Hub disclaimer if curious, but you do not need scripts to progress.
- Random unlisted codes from comment sections — stick to the Codes Hub.
- Spending Robux before you understand which gamepasses actually save time for your play style.
- Bribing for Mayor while your plot still needs basic buttons.

Golden City rewards players who turn every cash spike into structural income. Codes start the fire; businesses and managers keep it burning while you explore fishing, heists, and politics at your own pace.
